i had an interesting juxtapose today, sweetie. earlier today i got word that the adoption of a dog i took in a year ago was finalized. i took her in to foster her after she had surgery and months later i decided that i was the best person for her. we've been very happy together for a year now, and she truly is my best girl. i was estatic about the adoption being official, only to be asked a few hours later to work on a case of dogs being decipated and strangled in bolivia (*warning, this video is graphic).
supporters of the bolivian president held a protest where they said their opposition would "die like dogs" if the situation escalated. sadly, they choose to further make this point by strangling two dogs and then decipating them.
i asked a friend to translate the video for me and after viewing it she explained to me that "die like a dog" is an old saying. che guevara's enemies warned him that he would "die like a dog" and when he was found he told them that he was not a dog, he was a man, and he would die like a man. whether a dog is being killed or a man is being killed, they're both feeling beings. they feel death, strangulation, and decipation. it is this "saying" and heinious acts such as this that needs to die.
luckily the world reacted to these acts of incredibly cruelty and the reaction caused the bolivian administration to act quickly. in an interview that came out this morning the vice president of bolivia, alavro garcia linera, spoke out act these acts and stated that the administration is urging congress to pass an animal welfare ordinance that will prevent something like this from happening again.
i'm not sharing my day with you because i want you to watch that disgusting video, or because i want to whine about my day and bum you out. i'm sharing this with you because i want to show you an example of how people's voices can result in compassionate change. silence will not save anyone.
even if you are busy you can still make a big difference for dogs. it can be as easy as sending out an email or making a phone call and it IS effective because you are adding your voice to a choir, and the louder we get the more change we will see in this world. please visit www.helpinganimals.com for more information and to start speaking out.
